In a significant milestone for the B2B agritech sector, Ninjacart, a startup backed by Flipkart, has successfully surpassed the INR 1,000 Cr mark in sales for the financial year ending March 31, 2023. This achievement marks a 19% increase in operating revenue compared to the previous fiscal year, reflecting the company’s robust performance in the market.

The Journey of Ninjacart: Founded in 2015 by Thirukumaran Nagarajan, Sharath Loganathan, Sachin Jose, Kartheeswaran KK, and Vasudevan Chinnathambi, Ninjacart initially commenced operations as a B2C business. However, recognizing the changing dynamics of the market, the company strategically pivoted to the B2B model.


Sales Growth and Financial Performance: Ninjacart’s operating revenue surged to INR 1,153.4 Cr in FY23, showcasing a substantial growth trajectory from INR 967.3 Cr in FY22. The startup has positioned itself as a key player in the agricultural technology sector, focusing on the distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables directly from farmers to various retail outlets, including restaurants, shops, and vegetable sellers.

Challenges Amidst Growth: While Ninjacart has experienced remarkable sales growth, the journey has not been without challenges. The financial report for FY23 reveals a 6% increase in losses, totaling INR 326.3 Cr compared to INR 307.9 Cr in the previous fiscal year. Expenditure Dynamics: Total expenditure for Ninjacart witnessed an 18% surge, reaching INR 1,538.7 Cr in FY23, up from INR 1,299.8 Cr in FY22.
